Seja bem-vindo a Portugal.
Abidera teaches the European Portuguese you actually need — scenario by scenario. Order a bica, decode the water bill, call the Wi-Fi technician, thank the person at the padaria.

Made for the errands, counters, forms, and calls
European Portuguese for Portugal, not a mixed dialect soup.
Cafés, transport, housing, documents, healthcare, and more.
Subscription, billing, and cancellation are handled by Apple.
Built for the daily admin of living here, not vacation phrases.
Five tools for the stuff
that actually happens.
Not a phrasebook. Not language theatre. A practical set of tools for the moments where Portuguese stops being a lesson and becomes a task.
Real situations you'll actually face.
Twenty-two scenarios, from ordering a bica to renewing your NIF. Each one gives you the phrases, listening practice, and review loop for that situation.

Snap. Decode. Act.
Point your camera at a bill, contract, or notice. Get a plain-language summary and an action list.
Exmo. Cliente, informamos que, por falta de pagamento da fatura nº 2024-A887, o fornecimento será interrompido a 24/04 caso o pagamento não seja regularizado...
A phrasebook from your real life.
Context-aware translations for cafés, pharmacies, appointments, and messages, kept for replay in PT-PT.

Words that show up in your day.
Curated by category: café, pharmacy, Finanças. No filler drills.
Say any number, the local way.
Spell out prices, addresses, and quantities in European Portuguese, including PT-PT forms like dezasseis.
The scenarios newcomers hit first. One by one.
Each mission is a sequence of short lessons: listen, repeat, role-play, unlock. The goal is a usable script and enough vocabulary to move through the moment without freezing.
Hello, thank you, excuse me — said the way locals actually say them.
Order, ask for the bill, split the check, handle the “tudo bem?”
Navigate the register, ask for help, understand cashier questions.
Buy tickets, ask for directions, call a taxi, argue about a fine.
Doctor visits, pharmacy, symptom vocab, the SNS maze.
Police, fire, 112 call, reporting a lost wallet, embassy.
NIF, residency, Finanças, Segurança Social, and the paperwork maze.
Landlords, contracts, the water tank, “o senhorio” vocabulary.
Built for the Portugal you
actually live in.
Most apps start from generic lessons. Abidera starts from the errands, messages, forms, and awkward little calls outside your window.
Less fluency theatre.
More Portuguese you can use this week.
Abidera does not promise a personality transplant or instant local status. It gives you practical language for the little frictions of living here: what to say, what a document means, and what the tone of a phrase really implies.
Start from the errand, then learn the language.
Each mission is built around a real situation: a counter, a call, a form, a receipt, a warning letter.
Documents become tasks, not panic.
The decoder turns a bill, notice, or contract into a plain-language summary and action list.
Meaning, tone, and usable PT-PT.
Translations include pronunciation and context so you know what to say and how it will land.
Start with included lessons.

What is Abidera?+
Abidera is a European Portuguese (pt-PT) iPhone app for people living in Portugal. It teaches practical language through 22 scenario-based missions, a document decoder for Portuguese paperwork, and an AI translator with pronunciation, tone, and context notes. Some content is included with download; Abidera Premium unlocks full access through an in-app subscription.
Who is Abidera for?+
Expats, migrants, and long-term residents in Portugal — not tourists, and not Brazilian Portuguese learners. It starts with survival phrases and builds toward the daily-life situations that keep coming up: bills, appointments, housing, transport, and admin.
Is this European or Brazilian Portuguese?+
European Portuguese only (pt-PT). The content is written for Portugal and uses European Portuguese forms, pronunciation, and local context. If you're moving to Brazil, this is the wrong app.
I'm a complete beginner. Is this for me?+
Yes. Mission 01 starts with “bom dia” and “obrigado”, then moves quickly into short scripts for things you are likely to need.
Do I need internet to use Abidera?+
Core lessons and phrase packs work offline once downloaded. Decode and AI Translate need internet because they process your input server-side.
How does Abidera Premium work?+
Download the app, try the included content, and upgrade inside the app when you want full access. Premium unlocks every mission, Decode, Translate, and Vocab feature. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so you can review the current terms before purchase and cancel from your Apple ID subscriptions.
Can I cancel any time?+
Yes. One tap in Settings → Subscription. Your access stays active until the end of the current billing period.
Do you offer refunds?+
Refunds are handled by Apple under their App Store policy. If the app didn't work as promised, email us and we'll help you through the Apple refund flow.
Who made this?+
Abidera is an independent project built in Madeira for people dealing with daily life in Portugal.
